Your Serum Isn't Working Because Your Jaw Is Clenched

A 3-day fascia release for the lift serums can't give you, and the relief your jaw's been begging for.

Fascia is one continuous sheet, not separate patches.

The layer just under your skin — the SMAS (superficial musculoaponeurotic system) — runs continuously from your scalp, across your face, down your neck, and into your chest and shoulders. It's not a a series of unconnected zones. So tension held in one place doesn't stay local; it transmits along that sheet, the way pulling one corner of a stretched blanket tugs at the whole thing.

The jaw muscles are the strongest in the face, and clenching keeps them chronically contracted.

The masseter and temporalis are working muscles even when you're doing nothing — when they're braced all day, that's sustained mechanical tension being fed directly into the fascia around them. Chronically contracted muscle pulls its surrounding fascia into a shortened, denser state. Less glide between layers, less give.

Because the fascia is continuous, that tension travels — and shows up as "tired" in a few concrete ways:

Downward pull. Constant tension at the jaw and temples can drag on the fascial planes above (under-eye, mid-face), which reads visually as sagging or heaviness, independent of actual skin aging.

Restricted circulation. Tight, dense fascia compresses the small vessels and lymphatic channels running through it. Less fresh blood flow and sluggish lymph drainage is a big part of what makes skin look dull or puffy rather than radiant — it's not that the skin cells themselves are unhealthy, it's that they're not being resupplied efficiently.

✹ Tension lines vs. aging lines. Some of what reads as "tired lines" is actually the visible result of muscles being held in a habitual contracted position for years, not collagen loss.

Why serum genuinely can't touch this: a serum works on the epidermis — the surface layer of skin. It can hydrate, and over time support collagen. It has no mechanical relationship to a masseter muscle that's been clenched since 3pm. You could have perfect skincare and still look tired, because the thing making you look tired isn't happening at skin level at all.

Hi, I'm Amanda!

Trauma-Trained Somatic Coach, Nervous system authority, and Myofascial Energetic Release bodyworker

Over the last decade, I’ve worked with thousands of women around the world as a trauma-trained nervous system coach and Myofascial Energetic Release (MER) bodyworker.

I work with women and mothers who feel the limitations of protective patterns developed early in life — learning to keep the peace, stay in control, take care of everyone else, or make themselves smaller to feel safe and accepted.

These patterns don’t just shape how you think. They shape your body. The need to hold everything together can become a clenched jaw or tight chest. Always being on alert can change the way you breathe. Years of carrying more than your share can show up in your pelvis, shoulders or lower
back.

Through my five-phase framework, we work with both the emotional pattern and the body armoring that holds it in place, creating more nervous system capacity for choice, agency and
stability in how you move through your life.

And this becomes especially interesting when you understand the connection between your jaw and your core. Read on to see why your jaw may be doing work your core was designed to help
with.
