What is Mindfulness?
What is Mindfulness?
Mindfulness is another word for awareness. It is a secular meditation practice that helps us to observe how the mind works. When studying mindfulness, we learn about the brain, neuroplasticity, how to reengage with our five senses and how our thoughts, feelings, body sensations and actions are all linked. Through this understanding, we can use our mindfulness practice develop our focus and concentration, learn how to respond more skilfully in ordinary situations as well as more challenging situations, gain confidence and grow our happiness.
Developing a Mindfulness practice will have a positive affect on everything we do in our lives, from the big things in life like our careers, families and schoolwork, to the everyday little things like walking, listening and eating a piece of chocolate. Undoubtably, the biggest benefit that mindfulness will bring into our lives, is increased emotional health and wellbeing, and a stronger sense of self.
